The original flag was a version of the new national flag adopted on May 1st, 1863, manufactured by the Richmond Clothing Depot. The original we have reproduced was the Headquarters flag for General Jubal Early.
The flag was captured by the 22nd New York Cavalry, March 1865. During the Autum of 1863 the A Richmond Clothing Depot began making national flags in four different sizes one of which was for field use, these were used as regimental colors, brigade and headquarters flags.
The flag measures 47” by 71” and is made of wool bunting with cotton stars, the flag has two rope loops for attaching to a flagpole. Our reproduction is from N.J. Sekela and features a lot of handsewn and some machine stitching. This is a beautiful flag with many uses.
